Rudi’s

Originally created as a retail brand forthe house brews at Dr Rudi’s rooftop in Auckland’s Viaduct harbour but now run as a stand alone brewery. The client was keen to do something simple but unique that wouldn’t blend into the existing look and feel of craft beer brands at the time while avoiding the look of being a big brewery’s attemptat a new craft beer brand.

The brand utilised the existing Dr Rudi’s font and a simple system of similar pantone colours to the beer’s actual colour, after mocking up the illustration direction I spoke with dutch illustrator Timo Kuilder to assist with executing them, creating a simple and timeless style for the brand. The owners loved ‘brewers of beer’ as an amusingly simple description of the company and it accompanies the Rudi’s name in the wordmark when used seperate to cans and packs.

Can printing was carefully managed to ensure the illustrations are subtle on warm cans but more visible on chilled cans when condensation forms.
